Model Home Inspiration

I recently had a chance to attend a designer meet-and-greet event for some of the model homes in a local subdivision. Touring model homes is what inspired me to start my home staging business, so this event was right up my alley! I had a great time looking at all the beautiful model homes and meeting the people behind the designs. I got a chance to learn more about home design trends, and what today's home buyers are looking for. I wanted to pass along that information to help you when selling or renovating your home.

To maximize the space in your rooms, keep things light and bright. Warmer whites and grays are on-trend colors for walls and kitchen cabinets. Light color granite and marble counter tops are also appealing to today's home buyers.

Open floor plans are also still very popular. An open layout makes for easy entertaining, which is what today's home buyers look for in a home. Make sure that your living room furniture arrangement also allows for good flow so it doesn't feel small or cramped. Use artwork and other accents to highlight the architectural details and focal points in the home.

The artwork is being displayed vertically to draw attention to the high ceilings in this beautiful living room.

When renovating your home, it is important to think about what style you want to go with. While at the designer meet-and-greet, I had an opportunity to speak with Chrissy Bailey, a designer for Trendmaker Homes. She shared with me that the "classic Farm House is still popular amongst some older millennials in more suburban settings. Mid-century modern is very popular amongst younger millennials". She also gave a lot of great insight as to what to look for when choosing hard finishes for your home. "Classic materials and natural neutral materials like medium toned woods, exposed beams, split-faced stone are very popular with all styles."

These sliding barn doors are a great way to give your home that "farm house" style.

Consider also adding a unique element to your home to help it stand out. A custom bookshelf or feature wall are great ways to add a personal touch to your home and make it more memorable. For bathrooms, installing a large soaking tub or closet system can help give your home that "wow" factor.

I hope you were inspired by these model homes as much as I was! If there are any local communities with model homes in your area, I would highly encourage you to visit them for even more design inspiration. Please comment and share how you can use some of these ideas in your home!

Happy Decorating!
